Billboard Chris Asks a Sharp Question About “Evolution”

On a logical basis, Elston’s critique is unanswerable — but logic no longer has the status that it once did. Nor does evidence.

Since 2021, Canadian Chris Elston (“Billboard Chris”), has been travelling the world, starting conversations about the harm done to children by puberty blockers and gender ideology in schools. The former insurance broker, married with two children, first got involved while supporting J.K. Rowling for speaking out against these practices.

His message:

Instead of encouraging gender nonconformity, and rejecting regressive gender stereotypes, children are now taught to embrace the stereotypes to the point of physically harming their bodies. They are taught that they have boy brains or girl brains, or a gendered soul. This is wholly unscientific nonsense.

Thousands of children are now being sent to gender clinics, where they receive ONLY affirmation of this idea, and they are quickly sent on a medical pathway which includes puberty blockers, opposite-sex hormones, and surgery.

School systems have been surprisingly receptive to gender ideology. A husband and father, he is no stranger to assaults in the line of duty. But he thinks, someone must finally speak up about this and by setting an example, he has enabled many others to feel the courage to do so.

He brushes off accusations of being “far right.” He counters by suggesting that his opponents do a bit of research: “My opinions on this matter are evidence-based and shared by the progressive medical bodies of England, Sweden, Finland, and Norway.”

When logic fails, what happens to science?

On Saturday, Elston raised an interesting point at his X account:

And if you believe in evolution, this ideology is stating that somehow one billion years of the process of natural selection has failed, and it’s now up to a pharmaceutical company to help our children be their true selves.”

They’re turning healthy children into chronic, lifelong, pharmaceutical patients.

Whether you believe in God or evolution, this makes no sense. If you believe in God, this ideology teaches that God made us wrong.

And if you believe in evolution, this ideology is stating that somehow one billion years of the process of natural selection has failed, and it’s now up to a pharmaceutical company to help our children be their true selves.” October 26, 2024

On a logical basis, Elston’s critique is unanswerable — but logic no long has the status that it once did. Nor does evidence.

As noted here earlier, a number of evolutionary biologists have been Canceled in various venues for making similar observations. Richard Dawkins had a brush with the new system during the Olympics; his Facebook page briefly disappeared when he questioned gender ideology. Long before that, he had lost his “Humanist of the Year” title for insisting that humans cannot change their sex. This year, Colin Wright and another scientist were kicked out of a NIH event for doubting the biological definition of sex.

And, classically, international scholars who cannot define “gender” nonetheless want it to be incorporated into all branches of research anyway.

With all its faults and deficiencies, Darwinism is a point of view that seeks contact with the world of nature. The newer approach to science, based on private perceptions of truth, has much less need for a firm hold on reality.

A glimpse of a new approach to science?

On Saturday, I had a look at a longish article by a cognitive neuroscientist at Big Think. His New Stoned Ape Theory of the development of the human mind attributes the development of human consciousness to psychedelics. From the article, we learn almost nothing about the development of human consciousness. That is not in itself surprising because the human mind has no history. But we do read,

If the biosphere is truly one interconnected organism, with human civilization forming something like “the brain of Gaia,” could psychedelics be what the global system feeds to its “brain” to make it self-aware? Could the next great leap in evolution be the emergence of a fully integrated “noosphere,” the mind of a planetary system that has “come to life” or “woken up” through a unified planetary-scale human cognition?

Bobby Azarian, “A new spin on the ‘Stoned Ape Hypothesis’”

Remember, this article appeared at Big Think, not Tripper News. And it is largely science-free.

Just one article, you say? Okay, maybe. But let’s see if it finds companions in serious venues next year. I didn’t expect so many biologists to get Cancelled for saying that binary sex is a fact about humans. But here we are. And it may be that the big Whatever You Feel of private truth is here to stay and will slowly devour all forms of knowledge based on public truth.
