In a non-paywalled editorial, the Wall Street Journal editors tell us that Fauci’s newly released documents/memoirs of the Covid era “tell a different story from what he told you”:

Anthony Fauci made himself the public face of pandemic lockdowns in 2020, and now we have a glimpse of what was going on behind his eyes. Newly released diaries paint an unflattering portrait of a self-obsessed and not entirely honest bureaucrat, in contrast to the image of the careful scientist he cultivated in public…

One conclusion is that on important points Dr. Fauci was both wrong and dishonest. For instance, he and allies in the government-science industrial complex still cling to the theory that Covid-19 evolved naturally in animal populations before spreading to humans …

The diary suggests that by Jan. 26, 2020, Dr. Fauci believed the virus hadn’t originated in the Wuhan wet market, often identified as the source by natural-origin advocates. This didn’t stop him and allies from painting skeptics of the natural-origin theory as politicized cranks and conspiracy theorists. Previously released documents shed light on how Dr. Fauci orchestrated publication of a scientific paper to suppress the theory that Covid leaked from the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

The diary also brags on Dr. Fauci’s influence persuading the likes of California Gov. Gavin Newsom and then-New York Mayor Bill de Blasio to shut schools and lock down large parts of the economy. Yet he later claimed in public that he never argued for locking anything down.

The Journal editors have much more to say about Fauci, none of it flattering. But it is not a hit piece. The source is — himself. They sign off with

The Covid record shows that his advice was often wrong, and in the case of the lockdowns catastrophically so. This is why voters increasingly rebel against rule by “experts.” After reading the Fauci diaries, the real question is why we’d ever allow such a person to rule over us in that way again. “Revealing Diaries”

Here at Mind Matters News, we covered the Crazy for years. We had suspected (though could not prove) that the stories that Fauci was selling legacy media were fraying badly and we covered them as such. All we could do was present the facts we could find. Now Fauci has inadvertently provided the evidence many of us were seeking.

How did the diary come to light?

First, strictly speaking, the 1,141 pages that have been released are not a personal diary, though they are described that way. Fauci was writing at work on a government computer. Given his position as Chief Medical Advisor to the President, they are a trove of government documents, despite all the personal material.

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert S. Kennedy made the documents available to Kentucky US Senator Rand Paul via Google Drive. Here they are, a big but searchable file. The “diary” artwork was, of course, added.

Some highlights:

● Ten of 12 scientists that Fauci convened thought, based on its structure, that the virus must be manmade. But “Three days later, four of the scientists from that call were circulating a draft arguing the opposite. ‘The Proximal Origin of SARS-CoV-2′ appeared in Nature Medicine on March 17, concluding that the virus was not a laboratory construct.” Fauci dismissed the CIA warnings about China’s activities and made plans to have anyone who suspected his official narrative dismissed publicly as a conspiracy yoick. ● In order to achieve lockdowns and masking (which, in many places, lasted for years), Fauci inflated Covid’s fatality rate. (See X post at right.)

● Fauci cared very much about publicity and reveled in stories like “Anthony Fauci fights outbreaks with the sledgehammer of truth” (Washington Post, March 12, 2020) and “Is Anthony Fauci the Sexiest Man Alive? Who the hell cares?” (Los Angeles Times, April 14, 2020).

Generally, the legacy media that carried such stories for Fauci have been slow to jump on the revelations of his fundamental unseriousness about it all. Perhaps the editors are hoping we will all just forget about it.

But can we afford to just forget what happened and be nice?

And the fact is, you never get back what you gave up trying to do the right thing if you did so early. You remain cancelled. And those other people who did the cancelling, they don’t even know about the Fauci diaries. There is no vindication.

Senator Paul is interviewing Anthony Fauci today at the U.S. Congress. This should be lively. He warns, “If Anthony Fauci comes before my committee tomorrow and perjures himself, his preemptive pardon from Joe Biden will not protect him.” Update: He has repeatedly refused to answer questions.
