Three Main Things That Shaped Western Civilization

There are many things that overturned Western Civilization morally, but I want to concentrate on three things. Aside from the Crucifixion of Jesus and His Resurrection spearheading Western Civilization, which is a given, most people are unaware of the profound overturning of culture The Beatles had on society. The third cultural explosion is AI, which is still shaping our lives as I type.

But back to The Beatles and God: When they came on the scene in 1960, the year of the introduction of the contraceptive Pill, they were a mediocre band but rapidly became the greatest band of all time in late-1963/’64, when Beatlemania was born (I wrote about it here: The Beatles and the Dark Side of the Road – New English Review).

The impact the group had on Western culture was staggering, with the mid-1960s’ Summer of Love springboarding the Sexual Revolution. The metaphorical honey in The Beatles’ songs had also a trace of arsenic. Ditties from the early days like “I Want to Hold Your Hand” to the later period of “Why Don’t We do it the Road”

In his book, Many Years From Now, Barry Miles quotes McCartney saying he wrote the above song while on retreat in Rishikesh, India. He saw two monkeys copulating in the street and was impressed at the simplicity of the scene, when compared to the emotional turmoil of human relationships. McCartney said a male monkey just hopped on the back of this female and “gave her one”. McCartney added:

Within two or three seconds he hopped off again and looked around as if to say, ‘It wasn’t me!’ and she looked around as if there’d been some mild disturbance . . . And I thought . . . that’s how simple the act of procreation is . . . We have horrendous problems with it, and yet animals don’t.

Nietzsche would call this moral inversion the transvaluation of values, the instinct of the animal by following one’s passion. For the male monkey ‘on the road’, the mating act is forcibly copulating with the female (animals are not moral agents); for the human being to similarly accost a female, the act would be rape, a moral abomination. Sorry, Paul, give me the ‘horrendous problems’ of human relationships any day instead of ‘doing it in the road’.

many music lovers might not be aware that some of the words in the greatest love songs ever written, not just by The Beatles, are infused with idolatry. I’m not referring to standard love songs void of worshiping the love interest of a man or woman. It’s when they deify their subjects of desire, I believe that in certain cases criticism is justified.

Some love lyrics are intentionally idolatry, while others are innocently written with a passion to create a beautiful song. There are also lyrics that are blatantly vulgar or sinful. Unfortunately, for the devout Christian, many of these songs are classics. I’ve written about it here: Idolatry and Sin in Love Songs – New English Review

And with classics blaring out of record players, radios and TVs across the West, comes idolatry and God into the cultural jungle, with millions of screaming girls idolizing the ‘Fab Four’. John Lennon said in a 1966 interview:

Christianity will go. It will vanish and shrink. I needn’t argue about that; I’m right and I’ll be proved right. We’re more popular than Jesus now; I don’t know which will go first—rock ’n’ roll or Christianity. Jesus was all right, but his disciples were thick and ordinary. It’s them twisting it that ruins it for me.

The only ‘twisted’ disciple was Judas, but after some protests and burning of Beatles’ albums in American southern states, the twisting and shaking quickly returned. And by that time, the influence of The Beatles spawned numerous other manufactured bands singing decadent lyrics.

But in order to balance the morally good with the bad, an American band called The Monkees were during the mid-1960s manufactured. Like The Beatles, these four mop-top cute-looking guys sung wholesome songs, had their own TV show, and lots of fans. A great cunning plan to entice parents to allow their young daughters to watch TV, while Ed Sullivan later featured the other ‘Fab Four’ and the Rolling Stones, et al.

As most conspiracy theories have gone mainstream and proven to be factual, the link between Christianity and The Beatles is not difficult to discern for anyone who is a reflective thinker, or for those who have awakened to the enormous amount of lies politicians, the medical profession, and the media peddled since the spring of 2020: The year the world changed.

Prior to The Beatles, there was some sense of normalcy in the West, despite its many flaws in this fallen world. One of the main shifts was the sex thing.

It was always assumed The Beatles were the “good guys” of rock, while The Rolling Stones were the “bad guys”, the latter being the type of rocker-rogues that parents wouldn’t want their daughter dating.

Unlike the Stones, the loveable, boyish Beatles seemed to have started out wholesome, but they gradually began to write vulgar, bleak songs without many fans noticing it. In the first verse of his poem, “Annus Mirabilis,” Philip Larkin writes:

Sexual intercourse began/In nineteen sixty-three (which was rather late for me)—Between the end of the Chatterley ban/And the Beatles’ first LP.

I am a big fan of The Beatles and bought all of their albums. Their songs, and many other songs of the 1960s and ’70s, might have subconsciously shaped my world view, as well as TV anti-Christian propaganda brainwashing.

During my early adulthood I lost my faith and was quite promiscuous. Fortunately, I reverted to Christianity and acknowledged my sins of the past. The atheist Philip Larkin was also probably influenced by The Beatles in 1963.

As for AI: It might be the final frontier in overturning Western Civilization. It’s early days yet, but the speed at which it is moving is staggering. Only God knows where it will end up.

(NOTE: There is compelling evidence from Mike Williams’s podcasts that The Beatles were a psy-op group that were manufactured and did not write most of the great songs attributed to them, nor played musical instruments on their records or albums. Check out this  interview with Williams: Podcast: Mike Williams – How The Beatles Broke the West.)
