Monday Micro Softy 40: The Fate of a False Prophet
He wasn't actually fired for being a false prophet but for something that his prophecy unintentionally revealedForecasting can be difficult. Especially if it’s about the future. This week’s Micro Softy is about a prophet who got fired.
Lou Gubrious was the night watchman at the Bombs R Us warehouse in downtown Boston. The city had hosted recent heated protests against the manufacture of exploding weapons of war. So a night watchman was hired. His job was to keep a close eye on things and avoid terrorism.
Image Credit: Ol - At the end of Lou’s fourth night shift, his boss Axel reported to work for the day shift. Lou was clearly both excited and agitated. He acted anxious as he approached Axel.
“I had a terrible dream last night,” he said shaking. “I dreamed someone planted a bomb under your car today and you were killed in the explosion.”
Axel thanked Lou. At the end of his shift, Axel had his car carefully inspected by technicians at Bombs R Us. No bomb was found. He drove safely home.
The next morning when Axel arrived at work, he fired Lou. The decision to terminate Lou’s job had nothing to do with his vision about a bomb planted under Axel’s car. Nor did it have anything to do with Lou being mistaken.
Why was Lou Gubrious fired? That’s this week’s Micro Softy.
Solution to Micro Softy 39: Astounding Sports History
Last week’s Micro Softy requires paying close attention to specific words. Here’s the way it reads.
Who played for teams in the MLB (baseball), NHL (hockey) and the NBA (basketball) in the same city in the same year?
The puzzle is about a musician – not an athlete. The answer is the organist.
If you got this far, you win! Organists are not famous enough for us to expect a more specific answer.
But, as far as names go, Ray Castoldi is a good example. He has been the stadium organist at Madison Square Garden playing organ for New York Rangers (hockey) and New York Knicks (basketball). And when these teams are spending their off seasons, Castoldi plays the organ at New York Mets games (baseball).
